On June 1-2 the HTHC Womenʼs Lacrosse A Team traveled to Hannover with 8 other
teams from across Germany looking to advance to the Championship weekend on June
15-16.
After a hard fought Saturday the Warriorʼs found themselves at 1 win and 1 lost. Taking the
field on Sunday and facing Blax of Berlin who had knocked out Hamburg in the National
Playoffs in the 2012 season. Hamburg took control of the game and built a 8-0 lead late
into the game. Strong defensive play by Regina Flatken, goalie and Svea Knapp defender
was the foundation for building this lead. Excellent shooting from Bente Thordsen against
National Team goalie Sabine Paul of Berlin sealed the victory for Hamburg with an 8-2
score.
On June 15 the Lady Warriors travel to Köln to face the defending champions of Hannover.
The HTHC Warriorʼs fought hard but fell to Hannover. Hamburg not only lost the game but
also the strong defensive play of Svea Knapp after she suffered an ankle injury that would
side line her for the remainder of the weekend. On Sunday Hamburg faced Hiedelberg in
the 3rd place game. Hamburg quickly took control and lead by 3 goals off the strong play
of Mathilde Quass. Hiedelberg fought back and took the lead with 10 minutes to play. The
Warriors dug a bigger hole by committing 3 late fouls which left them 3 players down and
behind by 1 goal. The Hamburg defensive lead by Finja Weber and Gabrielle White sheld
Hiedelberg. while being down 3 players to keep Hamburg with in 1 goal. It was then when
Antonia Garbe team captain and leading scorer refused to give the game to Hiedelberg.
Antonia took the ball in the midfield area and drove 50 meter to the goal to score and tie
the game. In the next minutes Jennifer Karle scored the game winning goal. Jennifer
scored 2 goals and Antonia scored 5 goals in the hard fought victory. The final score was
Hamburg 11 and Hiedelberg 10.
The HTHC Lady Warriors begin the 2013-2014 September 29 in Langenhorn against the
Championship Hannover Ladies.
Based on the 3rd place finished Hamburg will represent Germany in the German Czesch
Cup.

2012-2013 Frauen Lacrosse Play Offs und Deutsche Meisterschaften
Am 1./2. Juni 2012 reiste das
Damen Lacrosse A-Team nach Hannover, um mit 8 weiteren Teams aus ganz
Deutschland um die Qualifikation zu den Deutschen Meisterschaften in Köln am
15./16. Juni zu kämpfen.
Nach einem hart umkämpften Samstag
fanden sich die Warrior Ladys mit einem Sieg und einer Niederlage in der
Unterkunft wieder.
Am Sonntag musste man dann gegen
BLax aus Berlin ran, die uns im Jahr davor schon in den Play Offs rausgeworfen
hatten. Hamburg war von Anfang an hellwach und konnte durch starke Defense von
Regina Flatken, Torwart, und Svea Knapp eine 8:0 Führung halten. Durch Bente
Thordsens exzellente Treffer gegen Nationaltorhüterin Sabine Paul aus Berlin
endete das Spiel mit einem 8:2 Sieg.
Am 15. Juni fanden die Deutschen
Meisterschaften in Köln statt. Dort hieß der erste Gegner Hannover, die 2012
schon gewonnen hatten. Nach hartem und langem Kampf verloren die Lady Warriors
gegen den späteren Deutschen Meister. Zusätzlich zu der Niederlage verloren die
Hamburgerinnen auch noch die starke Defenderin Svea Knapp, die durch einen
Bänderriss den Rest des Wochenendes an der Seitenlinie verbringen musste.
Am Sonntagmorgen ging es gegen
Heidelberg um Platz 3. Die Hamburgerinnen hatten das Spiel schnell unter
Kontrolle und führten mit drei Toren dank des starken Spiels von Mathilde Quass Doch Heidelberg gab nicht auf und ging 10
Minuten vor Schluss in Führung. Mit 3 Spielern in Unterzahl und einem Tor
Rückstand ging man in die letzten 5 Minuten. Durch starke Defense von Finja
Weber und Gabrielle White konnte Heidelberg bis zum Ablauf der Strafzeiten
aufgehalten werden. Die Lady Warriors, angeführt von Captain Antonia Garbe,
gaben nicht auf. Sie nahm den Ball, brachte ihn in die Endzone der Heidelberger
und schoss den Ausgleich. In den wenigen verbleibenden Minuten schoss Jennifer
Karle das spielentscheidende Siegestor. Am Ende des Spiels hieß der Punktestand
11:10 für Hamburg. Durch ihren 3. Platz haben sich die A-Team Damen für den
Deutsch-Tschechischen Cup in Prag qualifiziert.
Die reguläre Saison 2013-2014 beginnt am 29.
September gegen den deutschen Meister aus Hannover in Langenhorn.

Play Off Vorbereitung beginnt!
Es geht in die heiße Phase der Saison!
Nun da wir 'nur' noch die Black Pearls spielen müssen, fängt das A-Team bereits an sich auf die diesjährigen Play Offs in Hannover vorzubereiten.
Das heißt für uns, 3x die Woche Training mit ordentlich viel Sprinten + Fitness. Außerdem kommt noch Teambonding dazu, worauf bei uns sehr geachtet wird. Wir feuern uns gegenseitig beim Training an, wir besprechen unter einander was man besser machen könnte und während verschiedener Drills ist Kommunikation das A und O!
Wir hoffen, dass wir jetzt ohne große Verletzungen/Krankheiten durch die Vorbereitung kommen. Nach dem ich selber mich an der Schulter verletzt hatte und eigentlich nicht trainieren bzw. hätte spielen dürfen, bin ich gerade wieder gesund geworden um wieder 100% dabei zusein.
Ich freu mich riesig auf die Zeit und es ist beeindruckend zu sehen wie wir als Team zusammen wachsen und unser Spiel immer präziser und besser wird. Weiter so, Mädels!

Hannover - Hamburg A-Team
Als wir alle in Hannover ankamen und uns in unsere weißen Trikots geworfen hatten, gab es noch kurz eine kleine Pre-Game-Besprechung.
Beim Aufwärmen konnte man deutlich die Anspannung aber auch die Freude auf das Spiel im Team spühren und wir feuerten uns gegenseitig an.
Als das Spiel begann waren wir voller Elan und Power, dies führte in den ersten 15min auch zu einem stätigen Tore schießen. Als Hannover das erste Timeout nahm, konnte man deutlich merken wie sehr alle wieder aufs Feld wollten um weiter zu spielen und noch weitere Tore zu schießen.
Mit der Zeit wurde das Spiel immer härter und es gab immer mehr Calls und auch gelbe Karten bei beiden Teams. Das führte zur Unruhe im Team und so konnte Hannover immer weiter davon ziehen.
Nach dem Spiel gab es noch einen etwas längeren Teamtalk, indem über die "Probleme" im Spiel geredet wurde. WIr waren uns alle einig, dass es nicht optimal gelaufen ist, aber wir behalten unsere Blick auf die Play Offs gerichtet. Endstand 24:8.
Hannover ist ein sehr gutes Team, aber keins was man nicht schlagen kann und nun wissen wir woran wir noch mehr arbeiten müssen, damit wir zu den Play Offs und der DM super vorbereitet sind.
Mädels, ich bin stolz auf euch und wir haben hart gekämpft!

A Disappointing Loss
Yesterday, Sunday April 28th, we played
and lost to Hannover, 2012 German Champions with a score of 24-8.
There’s not much to say. As predicted the game was intense, however,
it was disappointing for all of us on the team. We worked hard, and the
game’s result was far from what we wanted. Many of us agreed that it
was not the loss of the game that was disappointing as much as it was
the amount that we lost by.
However, Hannover is not an unbeatable team. The first part of the first half proves that we can not only match up with them but also control the pace of the game. With 5 weeks to the playoffs we all expect to take our physical conditioning and skills to another level in order to make it to the DM; Coach Bob Eakins will ensure that. Hard work and determination could get us another chance to face Hannover and come out as the victors.

Pre-game Rituals
It’s a few hours before the game and music is
blasting through my headphones: hip-hop, pop, and reggae. I like it
all! I’m singing and dancing to Justin Bieber, Drake, and, of course,
to someone from home (Jamaica) like Vybz Kartel or Collie Buddz. I’m
getting in the zone.
Bente is also listening to music: pump-up songs like “Ima boss” by Rick Ross and Meek Mill and “I’m Ill” by Jay-Z, Fabolous, and Red Cafe. (Click the link for a sample http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kv5wrD_LAEQ).
Harriet is knotting her shoelaces 4 or 5 times, so they won’t untie during the game, and brushing her teeth with Goalie Reggie, who is dressed in special game socks.
Svea is wearing a ponytail with lots of little hair bands and ponytails in it, and Marie and I are wearing matching socks featuring phrases like ‘I work out’ and ‘Amazaballs’.
And the rest? There’s too much to tell! But undoubtedly, each one of the Hamburg Warriors (and every athlete out there) has a pre-game ritual: a routine or habit done in preparation for an upcoming game that prepares us mentally. You might be surprised at the lengths athletes go to with these rituals which can range from the more mundane, like quiet moments alone, to the more extreme, like sleeping with your lacrosse stick. So far, none of the warriors have admitted to sleeping with their sticks but I’m sure some bizarre rituals exist among us.

Another Big Win: Playoffs Confirmed!
On Saturday April 20th we
played against Kiel and won with a score of 16-4, securing our place in
the 2013 Women’s Playoffs in June!
The game had a late start; the grass field’s uneven surface was a concern to both players and referees. Wheelbarrows were brought in, dirt was poured, and the situation was rectified. Soon after, the game began, and what a slow start we had! During the first half, neither team was able to make many successful goals and the Warriors were ahead by a mere two goals.
All it took was a good half-time speech by Coach Bob Eakins and we endeavored to do the small things better. We found the net more than 10 times in the second half, holding our opponents to only 2 more goals.
Big thanks to B-Team Goalie Heike Brodtmann, who filled in for Goalie Regina Flatgen, and who played an amazing game, and congratulations to the Hamburg B-Team for their victory against Kiel as well!
