The Warriors learned the
true meaning of the word ‘adversity’ - circuitous travel routes, early
mornings, cold weather and more– at the start of the 2013 spring season
with a trip to the Stockport Easter 8’s tournament in England. There,
10 team members participated in the fast-paced and intense play. By the
end of the tournament, everyone was focused on returning to Hamburg;
exhaustion and a bit of frustration had overrun us. Though we’d
discussed the weekend at length, it was only by the next training in
Hamburg that the benefits and successes we achieved during the trip
became immediately apparent. The tournament truly challenged us to work
as a team and left us optimistic and ready to transfer our hard work to
our trainings and our first league game.
And, needless to say
the first game exceeded our expectations. With a score of 27-8, the
Warriors were clearly the victors of the women’s league lacrosse game on
Sunday April 7, 2013 against Bielefeld with a number of highlights
including 9 goals from attacker Antonia Garbe, a total of 8 scorers, and
an assist from goalie Regina Flatken. The score itself does not
express the inner workings of the game; we tried to perfect our play,
attacking the goal with our speed, stick skills, and team work while
still being challenged by the opponents who beat our defense a few
times, particularly in the first half, and scored 8 goals. The high of
the game is still with us; Look out Kiel, we are on the up and up!
